Stay up to date on the Securing a Strong Retirement Act of 2022 (SECURE 2.0).

Congress enacted the retirement plan legislation SECURE 2.0 in December 2022 as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023 (the Act). It includes over 90 provisions, many of which affect employer-sponsored 401(k) plans. Employers should prepare to comply with the changes that are required.

Action steps for employers 

  • Review provisions and effective dates 
  • Adopt plan amendments   
  • Coordinate plan changes with the plan’s service providers  
  • Synchronize changes affecting deferrals and employer contributions with the company’s payroll provider 
  • Develop communications for employees
