Joe Shusko is a principal with Baker Tilly's cybersecurity practice, based in its significantly expanding Chicago market. He has more than 20 years of team building and decision-making experience with a demonstrated record of reputable performance. As demonstrated throughout his career as a U.S. Marine infantry officer and cybersecurity and information technology specialist, he helps clients evaluate and mitigate their key information technology (IT) compliance risks.
Joe currently leads Baker Tilly’s IT risk practice for the Midwest region and concentrates his efforts on the assessment of IT systems, risk and controls over key information systems. Throughout his career, Joe has been responsible for leading teams in the review assessment of general computer controls in support of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance as well as assisting in the implementation of financial and operational systems ensuring appropriate operational and IT governance is maintained. He has also served as the IT SOX audit quality leader for the previous five years.
- Has led numerous multinational IT audit, cybersecurity and consulting engagements for large, public companies, including multiple Fortune 500 companies
- Served five years as the IT SOX audit quality leader and liaison to the national methodology office for a Big Four accounting firm
- Experience performing IT SOX engagements (both internal and external) for large, multinational, publicly traded organizations
- Member of the development team responsible for creating a project management and lean/six sigma methodology for a national audit practice
- Led a team of Oracle subject matter specialists with specific concentration in developing ERP methodology, deploying enabling technology and delivering foundational training to the audit practice
- Successfully passed 100% of internal and PCAOB quality inspections on his SOX engagements; served as IT advisor to peers on no less than eight additional PCAOB inspections
- Performed cybersecurity and IT internal audits and assessments
- Internal audits and assessments of ERP and business process risks and controls
- Trusted advisor to C suite leaders and assists them in understanding and responding to management’s key IT and cybersecurity related risks and developing risk management strategies
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
