Higher Ed Advisor: dissecting the first 50 days of NIL

Welcome to Higher Ed Advisor, the Baker Tilly podcast series where we speak with higher education industry leaders about practical and proactive guidance to help colleges and universities protect and enhance their value.

This podcast marks the one-year anniversary of Higher Ed Advisor!

The NCAA’s suspension of name, image and likeness (NIL) rules that went into effect on July 1, 2021 is already having a significant impact on colleges and universities of all sizes across all athletic conferences and divisions. Institutions are navigating these NIL changes in real-time as many student athletes have already signed endorsement, sponsorship and social media deals. While there is currently no federal law governing NIL, legislation has passed in 28 states. Compliance departments must ensure their institution’s policies and collegiate athletes’ contracts comply with state regulations.

In this podcast, two passionate college sports business specialists, Dave Capitano and Kristi Dosh, explore the first 50 days of NIL, recognize the challenges and opportunities facing institutions and share their insights for the future of NIL, including compliance and education.
