Client background

This client is a global reinsurance company providing its clients with a diversified and innovative range of solutions and services to control and manage risk.

The business challenge

The client was in the process of transitioning its policy administration system and needed to transfer a significant amount of historical data from their existing system to the new system.

Strategy and solution

Baker Tilly Digital worked to identify critical entities between both systems and determined the order of implementation for those entities and a plan around it, which included:

  • Creating hardware specifications to allow for the transfer of large volumes of data
  • Leveraging existing metadata models to implement consistent design patterns and ETL automation across numerous entities

We helped deliver insights for future business decisions that allowed the client to save time and money by:

  • Developing a process to move 10TB of data across two servers using the maximum number of parallel processes to transfer the information as quickly as possible
  • Implementing a metadata repository to create a consistent development pattern across all entities migrated, which allowed for the generation of integration code, producing a more stable and maintainable solution
