Steve Lawson, partner in the Tysons, Virginia office, has been with Baker Tilly since 2004. Steve specializes in providing transactional tax planning, compliance and other business advisory services for a variety of companies and their owners. He advises clients in a range of industries including technology, financial services, media, real estate and government contracting. Steve provides solutions to complex issues including structuring business acquisitions and divesture strategies, evaluating tax accounting methods, modeling complex joint venture allocations, and effectively managing income tax rates and exposure.

  • Provides tax compliance and consulting services to high-growth entrepreneurial clients operating in multiple state/local jurisdictions with inbound and outbound international operations
  • Provides tax advisory services related to structuring various reorganizations including taxable and tax-deferred mergers/acquisition, asset or stock purchase/sale, leveraged buy-outs and consolidations
  • Advises on tax accounting methods including method changes for cash-to-accrual, advance payments, R&D expenditures and the tangible property regulations
  • Leads engagement teams performing buy-side and sell-side tax due diligence
  • Assists companies going through conversions from corporate to partnership status or vice versa
  • Assists with identifying and materializing limitations on net operating loss carryforwards due to IRC Sec. 382
  • Assists high growth companies and their owners with maximizing the benefit of QSBS treatment
  • Assists with Internal Revenue Service and state representation and dispute resolutions
