Michael Piessens is a partner with Baker Tilly US, LLP.

Michael has more than 30 years of diverse accounting, financial reporting, audit and consulting experience. As the partner leading Baker Tilly New England’s technical accounting advisory service line, Michael works closely with CFOs and controllers at private and public companies of all sizes in various industries, including high tech, life sciences, healthcare, digital assets, manufacturing and distribution, professional services, financial institutions, and cannabis. He provides critical accounting and financial reporting consulting assistance and guidance on a broad array of areas, including PCAOB and AICPA audit readiness and support, IPO and SPAC readiness and support, SEC and private company financial reporting, and complex accounting matters (i.e., financing transactions, revenue recognition, share-based compensation, leases, business combinations, inventory, cryptocurrency/decentralized finance, IFRS/GAAP conversions and many other areas). Michael is also highly regarded for his expertise in technical guidance adoption resource, providing frequent internal and external training and implementation support for newly issued and future effective U.S. GAAP and IFRS authoritative guidance and accounting standards, including the newest standards on current expected credit losses, leases and revenue recognition.

Prior to joining the firm, Michael’s professional career included division controllership roles at an international leader in the payment processing industry and at a publicly traded alternative risk management insurance company. He also spent three years working as an auditor for Ernst & Young in Boston.
