Ian Halligan

Ian leads the international tax services team as part of the private wealth tax practice of Baker Tilly. Ian has more than 30 years of professional experience in providing international tax advice to expatriates, inpatriates and high-net-worth individuals with international tax issues.  He started his career in London in 1989, and permanently moved to Chicago in 2001.

  • Deep expertise in individual income tax issues, ranging from dealing with large volume expat assignee programs to high-net-worth individuals with cross-border tax issues
  • Assists with inpatriation and expatriation/exit planning, foreign investment planning, foreign pensions and trusts, issues related to nonresident investors, tax treaty planning, foreign tax credit maximization for individuals and close company shareholders
  • Advises on expat compensation structuring and tax equalization policy advice.
  • Resource when it comes to all U.S. and U.K. interactive tax issues.
  • Qualified with the U.K. Association of Taxation Technicians (1991)
  • Qualified with the U.K. Chartered Institute of Taxation (1994)
