
Scott Shavel is a tax director in our cost segregation advisory group, a practice within Baker Tilly’s specialty tax team. As an accomplished professional, Scott has more than 20 years of public accounting experience, during which time he gained specialization in the cost segregation and tangible asset valuation arena.
- Performs cost segregation studies for a variety of organizations, including office buildings, corporate campuses, data centers, manufacturing facilities, casinos, hotels and large retail centers
- He has served real estate owners with an emphasis on identifying tax saving opportunities within clients’ real estate portfolios. He is a key communicator between external client leadership including CFOs, controllers, and tax directors and the internal tax team. He coordinated activities and responsibilities of contractors, project managers, outside vendors and internal personnel to ensure timely and efficient completion of analyses.
- He has performed analyses in numerous industries for both domestic and international clients. Investment expenditures analyzed included new construction and renovation projects, leasehold improvement build-outs, asset purchases and 1031 exchanges. He has a thorough understanding of tax law, revenue rulings and IRS directives. He successfully defended his studies before the IRS.
- Previously Scott worked in the engineering design industry. He designed mechanical systems and wrote specifications for commercial and institutional projects. Additional responsibilities included site surveys, building evaluations, cost estimates, coordinating engineering trades with architectural design and resolving on-site problems.
