
Matthew is a tax managing director with Baker Tilly’s tax services practice. With more than 30 years of U.S. federal, state and international real estate tax experience, including Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), U.S. and foreign fund structures, equity syndication, global transfer pricing, and large-scale real estate transactions. Matt is a trusted advisor to senior leadership, consistently aligning tax strategy with overarching business objectives.
Prior to joining Baker Tilly, Matt led the tax functions of a global alternative asset manager, a public REIT, and a private real estate developer, and served large funds as a real estate tax senior manager with a Big Four firm.
- Provide oversight and leadership to the global tax function
- Provide tax structuring and syndication support for funds in the U.S., Europe, Brazil, China and Japan
- Oversee tax provisions for financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) accounting standards
- Provide tax-related inputs for budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes
- Collaborate with treasury teams to optimize global cash management and repatriation strategies
- Oversee quarterly REIT testing, quarterly tax provision calculations, quarterly estimated taxable income projections and year-end return of capital calculations
- Provide tax due diligence and tax structuring support large scale acquisitions and dispositions
- Establishing consistent global tax policies and procedures across all regions, including global CbCR reporting and Pillar 2 global minimum tax
