CHICAGO (May 29, 2026) – Baker Tilly, a leading advisory, tax and assurance firm, announces Andy Mattson, a principal in the firm’s tax practice, has been named vice chair of the Tax Executive Committee for the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA).
Mattson is expected to serve as chair of the committee following his term as vice chair.
“Andy has been deeply engaged in the AICPA’s tax policy efforts, and this role reflects both his technical expertise and his ability to navigate complex regulatory issues,” said Lynette Stolarzyk, managing principal of Baker Tilly’s tax practice. “His appointment also strengthens our firm’s connection to the broader profession and the conversations shaping its future.”
As vice chair and chair-designate, Mattson will help oversee the AICPA’s tax policy positions and statements on standards for tax services. The committee monitors tax legislative and regulations and recommends changes to simplify tax law and regulatory guidance. In his capacity as chair, Mattson will also review and approve comment letters submitted by the AICPA to Congress, the Treasury Department and the IRS.
"Andy brings deep technical expertise and a global perspective, along with a strong commitment to collaboration across the profession,” said Melanie Lauridsen, vice president of tax policy & advocacy for the AICPA. “His experience in international tax and working across firms and networks positions him well to help drive thoughtful, practical outcomes for the profession. His appointment as vice chair of the Tax Executive Committee is a strong addition to the committee’s leadership."
Mattson has advised startups and technology companies in Silicon Valley since 1985. His areas of focus include corporate, partnership and individual taxation, compensation planning, international taxation and stock option planning. Mattson currently serves as the chair of the California Society of CPA’s Committee on Taxation. That role will conclude when he steps in as chair for the AICPA’s Tax Executive Committee.
“I am honored to serve in this role at a time when tax policy and administration are becoming increasingly complex,” said Mattson. “The committee plays an important role in helping practitioners interpret guidance and in providing feedback to policymakers, and I look forward to contributing to that work.”
Mattson previously served on the AICPA Tax Executive Committee from 2006 to 2008 and rejoined the committee in May 2025. He has served on multiple AICPA Tax Division Committees for a continuous period of over 25 years.
