
Matt is a principal with Baker Tilly’s assurance practice. He is based in our New York office and has nearly 20 years of experience, the majority of which was spent within a Big Four firm, providing assurance services and collaborating with growth-oriented and middle-market clients across technology, media and entertainment (M&E) and life sciences sectors. His client portfolio has included companies in all stages of the business lifecycle and ranges from venture capital and private equity backed to multinational public issuers.
Matt has extensive experience supporting complex and non-routine transactions, including IPOs, reverse mergers, debt and equity financings, and mergers and acquisitions. He is known for his pragmatic, risk-based audit approach and his ability to help management teams and those charged with governance navigate technical accounting, auditing and internal control matters with clarity and efficiency.
He also works closely with early-stage companies as they prepare for or navigate their initial audit and scale their finance and reporting functions, helping establish practical foundations that support future growth, capital raises and transactions.
- Deep expertise scaling audit methodologies to address U.S. Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) audit standards, tailored to company size, growth stage and regulatory profile
- Provide guidance on complex accounting topics including, but not limited to, revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, business combinations, internal-use software, collaboration arrangements, inventory, goodwill and impairment matters
- Robust understanding of internal controls applicable to various sectors and business-related risks, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) implementation and material weakness remediation
- Extensive experience with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting requirements, including, but not limited to, annual and quarterly filings on form 10-K and 10-Q, registration statements, issuance of comfort letters and pro-forma presentation matters
