Senior care center undergoes IT assessment to improve operations

Learn how the IT assessment resulted in a road map that provided opportunities for IT strategy and operations improvement.

Client background

The client is a not-for-profit senior living care center in the Northeast United States. The organization is over 70 years old and has about 700 employees.

The business challenge

The client’s leadership knew the organization’s IT capabilities were dated and lacked structure. They wanted to improve their ability to serve customers through modernized IT operations but were unsure of where to begin in their technology transformation. They had a small IT team and needed a health check to provide recommendations on spending, headcount and IT strategy development.

Strategy and solution

Baker Tilly Digital performed an IT assessment of the organization’s current IT strategy, capabilities, organization and architecture to baseline where it is today and identify what was needed to ensure each aspect was well-aligned to the organization’s mission and stakeholders.

After reviewing the organization’s data and interviewing key administration and IT leaders, Baker Tilly Digital provided direction on how to best align the IT strategy with the organization’s future state needs by delivering a road map that included:

  • IT operating model changes needed to support future growth
  • IT improvement opportunities, such as introducing intelligent automation and reducing number of applications
  • What’s needed from management to support the IT organization moving forward
  • Recommendations to:
-Supplement internal skills and capabilities across the IT ecosystem with trusted outsourced vendors, to help reduce enterprise risk
-Migrate IT services from infrastructure focus to a strategic business partner

Making these recommended changes to IT scope and operating model will enable the organization’s IT to advance in business value capabilities through automation, integration and data solutions and enhance stakeholder experience. The next steps for the client involve executing, monitoring and following the recommendations on the provided road map.
