The session will feature several projects that experienced budget overruns and overcharges, delays, poor workmanship, fraud and abuse. For each example presented, we will discuss the factors that impacted the project, warning signs that were present as well as key controls gaps or controls that failed. We will then share controls improvement recommendations that institutions can implement to mitigate these risks on future projects.

The session will also explore how institutions can benefit from the Inflation Reduction Act and the importance of collaboration between internal audit and the institution's project management professionals, which can help strengthen project controls and provide assurance that the institution has taken the appropriate steps to mitigate project risks and comply with federal requirements.
