Monica is a partner in the risk, internal audit and cybersecurity practice with more than 15 years of experience. Monica’s primary focus is internal auditing, risk assessment, fraud and forensics reviews, and strategic consulting on a wide range of business issues in the Washington, D.C. metro region. Her client base includes pediatric and academic medical facilities, colleges and universities, not-for-profit organizations, real estate and other for profit organizations.

Monica serves as the National Leader for Baker Tilly’s Diversity and Inclusion initiative (SOAR – Supporting Opportunity, Advancement and Recognition for All). She is a co-chair for the firm’s Talent Differentiation Task Force. She also serves on Baker Tilly’s Growth and Retention of Women committee. Prior to joining the firm, Monica worked in the internal audit department of a financial institution, where she led risk assessment activities and audited lending, deposits, and trusts.


  • Currently serving as a partner on one of the firm’s largest outsourced internal audit clients, where she is responsible for managing, developing, and executing internal audit programs
  • Helped numerous clients in performing risk assessments, analyzing the results, and developing multi-year internal audit plans. She presents these plans and their results to senior leaders and board members across a wide span of industries
  • Collaborates with senior leaders and audit committee members daily to develop internal audit recommendations and plans
  • Participates in on-going operational meetings with her clients to discuss compliance, strategy, and control matters
  • Worked on strategic analysis and organizational re-design projects
  • Led business process re-engineering engagements in areas including payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Performed fraud investigations, fraud risk assessments and forensic accounting work; her investigative work has resulted in criminal sentencing, employee terminations and client process revisions
  • Conducted Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), human resources and treasury fraud audits internationally
  • Developed and executed test plans to assess the operating effectiveness of key controls for critical business processes
  • Supervises multiple teams of staff and senior auditors on her engagements and is responsible for coaching, training and developing her team members
