Ed and Donna Offterdinger Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award at 2017 Leukemia Ball

The Maryland couple has supported The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for 20-plus years, raising more than $12 million for blood cancer research.

WASHINGTON (March 13, 2017) – The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), together with Wilmington Trust and M&T Bank, presented Baker Tilly Executive Managing Partner Ed Offterdinger and his wife Donna with The James L. Eichberg Lifetime Achievement Award here on March 11 at the 30th annual Leukemia Ball.

Established in memory of long-time LLS volunteer and supporter Jim Eichberg, the award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment to the organization’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Ed Offterdinger is a four-time chair of the Leukemia Ball and Donna has served on the Auction Committee for 10 years. Together, they have helped raise more than $12 million for LLS.

“The LLS has made remarkable advancements in blood cancer research,” Offterdinger, who lost a childhood friend to leukemia, said.  “It’s our pleasure to do what we can to help the LLS continue their important work. We are humbled to receive this award named after a great man we were honored to know.”

Baker Tilly was a Diamond Sponsor of this year’s ball, which has become one of the largest, non-political black tie events in the national capital region. The benefit has raised more than $55 million for blood cancer research since its inception in 1949.

“Baker Tilly is proud to support LLS and join them in recognizing Ed and Donna for their contributions,” Todd Stokes, Baker Tilly’s managing partner – D.C. Metro Area, said. “Blood cancer survival rates have improved dramatically and many cancer drugs originally approved for blood cancer have become the standard of care for other cancer forms. These achievements are the direct result of LLS’s research investment.”

Presented by Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), the Leukemia Ball took place on March 11 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and raised a total of $4.1 million for the LLS.
