Baker Tilly and its employees demonstrate their commitment to helping women overcome homelessness

WASHINGTON (June 14, 2017) – Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP (Baker Tilly) was a corporate sponsor of the 16th Annual Hope Awards Dinner benefiting Calvary Women’s Services (CWS). The event, which took place on May 10, raised more than $300,000 to provide housing and support services for homeless women in the D.C. area.

Fifteen Baker Tilly employees attended the dinner, including Colleen Wevodau, assurance senior manager in the real estate practice and Calvary board member.

This year’s Hope Award honored Dolores Huerta, the civil rights activist who co-founded the National Farmworkers Association, now known as the United Farm Workers. Catherine Cortez Masto, the first Latina senator in U.S. history, presented the award.

“Baker Tilly is proud to support Calvary Women’s Services,” Todd Stokes, Baker Tilly’s managing partner – D.C. Metro Area, said. “Calvary does an outstanding job of empowering women. Their mission resonates with many of us here at Baker Tilly, as demonstrated by the personal involvement of our team members.”

As chair of the Development Committee, Wevodau offered closing remarks: “I hope you have been moved by what you have seen and heard. Carry these stories forward so that more people are aware of the amazing things that are happening in our community. Women are transforming their lives.”
