MADISON, Wis. - Baker Tilly shares SEO report to reduce waste, create energy at World Dairy Expo Baker Tilly's Joel Laubenstein speaks to Brownfield Ag News for America regarding the recent biogas report and feasibility tools that were developed to aid dairy farmers and cheese makers in determining the feasibility of an anaerobic digester project.
Listen to Baker Tilly's Joel Laubenstein interview below.
That same report and tools were shared at the World Dairy Expo alongside the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) and the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association. The dairy industry is an integral part of the food and beverage practice at Baker Tilly.
Working with the Wisconsin State Energy Office (SEO), Baker Tilly developed an action plan aimed at assisting dairy farms and cheese-making facilities in reducing waste, reducing land spreading, curbing impacts on local wastewater facilities and harnessing available energy sources. The outcome of this collaboration demonstrates that alternative waste water treatment options can be economical, feasible, and financially viable in certain scenarios.
An in-depth toolkit and report that identifies opportunities for waste reducing energy applications on dairy farms and cheese making facilities were developed. The goal was to create a win-win situation for Wisconsin’s cheese makers and dairy farmers by demonstrating that waste, as an alternative energy source, can generate new sources of revenue and support operational growth.
In addition to the World Dairy Expo, Baker Tilly has recently participated at national and international conferences like the International Cheese Technology Expo, Biogas USA West, and upcoming events like MWFPA, Biocycle, NWFPA and CLFP conferences. This same waste-to-energy analysis and set of tools can be developed for other dairy and food processing states.
