Baker Tilly CEO Tim Christen Becomes Chairman of the AICPA

Christen’s platform to focus on increasing relevance of accounting profession services.

MAUI, Hawaii (October 22, 2015) – Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP (Baker Tilly) Chairman and CEO Tim Christen has been elected the new chairman of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), the world’s largest member organization representing the accounting profession.

“The accounting profession is at a critical point in its history,” said Christen. “Our profession needs to embrace change and move confidently towards the future to win the war for talent and remain in the best possible position to serve the public interest.”

Christen will continue to serve as CEO of Baker Tilly until June 2016 at which time CEO-elect Alan Whitman will assume the leadership of the firm. Whitman introduced Christen as the chairman of the AICPA at the fall meeting of the AICPA governing Council.

“Tim is the right person at the right time to serve as chairman of the AICPA. He is a thoughtful and visionary leader who has the ideas needed to move the profession forward,” said Whitman. “The chairman role reflects his passion for our profession and his passion for mentoring and developing others.”

“It is important that we build the relevance of the profession by modernizing services by adopting technology and increasing the speed at which we deliver our services and innovate,” Christen added.

“It also requires moving outside the walls of the CPA profession to become interconnected and invaluable business leaders. And it will mean creating an environment that nurtures our professionals so they can become true advisors to the clients and businesses they serve,” noted Christen.

Christen has been Baker Tilly’s CEO since 1999. He is actively engaged with Baker Tilly International and other member firms in The Baker Tilly International network. He currently serves on the Baker Tilly International Board of Directors, the North American Regional Advisory Council and chairs the Remuneration Committee.

The AICPA is the world’s largest member association representing the accounting profession, with more than 412,000 members in 144 countries, and a history of serving the public interest since 1887. The AICPA represents the CPA profession nationally regarding rule-making and standard-setting, and serves as an advocate before legislative bodies, public interest groups and other professional organizations.
