Investment approach

Baker Tilly Investment Advisors, LP follows an investment approach for selecting investment options that ensures we recommend the most appropriate alternatives for our clients. A five-step process guides our Investment Advisors as they work with you and for you.

Step one: Quantitative analysis
Our investment analysts screen investment options for their performance, risk, expenses, consistency, and management tenure.

Step two: In-depth analyst research
We conduct more quantitative research on the top investment options that includes attribution and style-based analysis, rolling performance over time, upside/downside capture, evaluation of results from other products, company information, and third party reviews on the products.

Step three: Investment company meeting
Our Investment Oversight Committee meets with investment managers to learn about the depth and continuity of the team, the manager’s investment philosophy and process, and ownership structure of the firm. This is used to assess the management team’s ability to deliver results.

Step four: Selection of investment options
The funds passing steps one, two, and three are then presented to our Investment Committee, if all committee members approve, Baker Tilly adds the investment option to our recommended list.

Step five: Monitor investment options
We monitor all recommended investments options on an ongoing basis. If an investment option does not continue to meet specific quantitative requirements or there is a change in qualitative factors, we conduct a further review and present our findings and recommendations.
