Sports data provider improves streaming architecture with AWS

The client

The client is a software-as-a-service and content provider focusing on sports fans. They focus heavily on combining original content and in-depth statistics to provide a complete picture for sports fans. This information is provided to subscribers through their website and mobile applications.

The business challenge

The client has traditionally been in the business of providing data and statistical information related to sports and saw an opportunity to leverage similar technology around cryptocurrency markets. Their existing approach for moving data didn’t leverage newer technologies focused on moving high volumes of data through a streaming architecture.

Strategy and solution

Baker Tilly Digital provided a solution with near real-time consolidation of pricing information from multiple cryptocurrency markets. Our framework for handling large volumes of data in real-time while also maintaining aggregated values was a completely new concept that took traditional analytical design patters and improved them to allow future applications to provide high performance dashboards at an aggregate level while also driving into granular detail. This framework allowed the client to better understand the total effort needed to implement a complete solution.

Our steps included:

  • Conducting several working sessions to help the client understand how to best apply technologies in Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deliver near real-time analytics from multiple external sources
  • Proposing a unique streaming platform that would allow data to move into the system at a detailed level and be aggregated and cached in near real-time
