Mid-sized global pharmaceutical manufacturer transitions from legacy government pricing operations

This case study highlights $1 billion global generic pharmaceutical manufacturer that needed help with completing their U.S. government pricing calculations.

Client background

A $1 billion global generic pharmaceutical manufacturer headquartered in the U.S. with more than 20 manufacturing sites.

The business challenge

The client decided to use their current managed service provider as their auditor globally and needed to find another provider to complete their U.S. government pricing calculations. Standing up an entire government pricing platform takes subject matter expertise, systems and time, which the company did not have.

The approach

  • We coordinated with the client and current third party logistics (3PL) and third party provider (TPP) to obtain necessary data, policies and methodology currently in place
  • We assessed various components of information received for completeness
  • We completed methodology implementation and system testing
  • We established ongoing processes for monthly and quarterly calculations
  • We provided executive summary and calculated results

The business impact

The immediate result was that the U.S. unit was able to shift providers as required but was also able to have validation of its current processes, and through this, uncovered some improvements in the process.  Using the managed services option allowed the client to reduce their footprint to bring on staff and systems and leverage subject matter professionals to improve their knowledge in this area by providing them confidence in the results senior leadership certifies each cycle.
