Instrument Associates, Inc. sells to Motion & Control Enterprises

Learn how Baker Tilly Capital worked with Instrument Associates, Inc. to find a buyer committed to upholding the company’s legacy.

Client need

Instrument Associates, Inc. (IA) is a full service, stocking distributor offering a number of instrumentation solutions and products including fittings, valves, tubing, filtration and process controls. Currently owned by Jay and Chris Fregeau, IA was founded in the 1950s by Jay’s father Jack Fregeau. Since its inception, the Fregeau family has made it the mission of IA to provide its customers with innovative solutions and services. As CEO, Jay Fregeau began to step back from day-to-day operations, and he and Chris decided to look for a new owner for the business that would uphold the company’s mission and continue the company’s focus to provide customers with innovative engineered solutions and value-added services in the field.

Baker Tilly Capital solution

Baker Tilly Capital, LLC (Baker Tilly Capital) ran a full sell side process to find Motion & Control Enterprises (MCE), a portfolio company of Frontenac, which had been active in acquiring similar companies across the U.S.

Results

IA found the right partner in Frontenac/MCE. Through this transaction, Frontenac/MCE will provide new resources and opportunities to the IA employees so that they can continue to grow the business under the Instrument Associates’ name.

“This combination will allow us to continue executing our growth plans, utilizing the resources provided by MCE,” commented Jay Fregeau, owner and CEO of IA. “This is a great outcome for our associates, customers and supplier partners.”
