Building indirect rate structures workshop

Monday, May 6 – Tuesday, May 7, 2024

Indirect rates permit recovery of indirect costs not otherwise charged as direct. Sounds simple, however, it can be a challenging process that requires consideration from not only how an organization is structured and services or products it provides, but also from a regulatory standpoint. In this session, we will look at how indirect rates are developed, from understanding the basic cost accounting concepts to hands-on development of indirect rates utilizing financial data, and everything in between.

Learning objectives:
  • Concepts required to develop indirect rates
  • Differences and impact of various rate structures
  • Events and market-driven factors that influence an organizations decision to change indirect rates
  • How the accounting system structure supports the indirect rate calculation
  • The impact of CAS and other regulations that impact how indirect rates are developed

Cost and price analysis in government contracts

Wednesday, May 8 - Thursday, May 9, 2024

Cost analysis and price analysis are two essential tools used in assessing fairness and reasonableness of proposed prices that must be understood by buyers and sellers in all government contracting situations – government contracting officers, and contractors alike. In this session, participants will obtain a working level understanding of what the dual techniques of cost analysis and price analysis are, when they are to be used and how to accomplish them. This objective is achieved through a thorough review and analysis of the regulations and illustrated through a variety of real world examples, scenarios and case studies.

Learning objectives:
  • Recognize the contracting officer’s responsibilities in acquisition of products and services at fair and reasonable prices
  • Demonstrate the ability to use tools to determine reasonableness
  • Ability to define cost analysis and price analysis
  • Correctly define certified price or cost data
  • Determine and establish adequate price competition
  • Correctly use analytical techniques in determination of cost and price data
  • Cite the correct FAR and DFAR related clauses
