Rica de los Reyes Herrera is a director with Baker Tilly’s forensic, litigation and valuation services practice. Rica has worked in the field of forensic accounting since 1998, where she has calculated losses in excess of $300 million. She has experience working with a variety of industries and works with insurance carriers and law firms on a variety of matters including, but not limited to, the loss of business income, extra expense, commercial litigation, fidelity, stock loss, liability, product recall and personal injury cases. As the demand for cyber insurance has increased, Rica has focused her work on evaluating losses sustained in relation to cyber breaches.

  • Working on behalf of the insurer, evaluated a business income loss totaling more than $60 million for a dairy company whose powdered milk processing facility suffered a fire. In order to process and distribute incoming milk before it expired, the dairy company had to reroute incoming shipments to another company-owned facility. In addition, the company had to change the powdered milk product mix and subsequently saw a lower profit margin
  • Quantified a reconstruction claim following an explosion on a space launch pad. The claim required the intake of a high volume of documents, including reports and invoices from a number of different vendors, and applying them to the reconstruction claim, to verify there were no duplications
  • A seafood distributor suffered a loss of profit following a product recall due to leaky cans for one of its products sold exclusively at a global grocery chain. The grocery chain also submitted an insurance claim for customer refunds due to the recall, as well as a loss of revenue and a loss of placement at the end of an aisle, as the product was slated to be placed there. We analyzed the claims for the insurers of both the distributor and the grocery chain
  • Works with energy, professional services and manufacturing industries to quantify business related loss due to cyber events. Events evaluated range from ransomware attacks to operations system errors where operations are affected
