Peter McElwain resides in our DC office and is a member of the firm’s Tax and Assurance Group. Peter provides financial statement assurance and business advisory needs of clients across a broad variety of industries, including technology, manufacturing, financial services, private equity, real estate, and hospitality. He has experience in serving US Securities and Exchange Commission, multinational and multi-location clients, as well as in matters pertaining to internal controls, corporate governance, SOX, GAAS, US GAAP, and IFRS.

Experience

  • Extensive experience in serving US Securities and Exchange Commission, multi-national and multi-location clients, as well as in matters pertaining to internal controls, corporate governance, SOX, GAAS, US GAAP, and IFRS
  • Assists clients with researching and implementing international financial accounting and reporting standards during first time adoption of IFRS on overseas secondment to London, United Kingdom
  • Provides considerable international and US technical accounting guidance to senior client personnel, including advising companies on revenue recognition, mergers and acquisitions, international operations, consolidations, impairment, income tax, leasing, and fair value accounting
  • Assists in the US firm’s professional practice and quality control function, where he provides consultation and guidance to clients regarding the appropriate accounting and auditing considerations
  • Served in a leadership role in a global firm’s education initiatives. Facilitated the growth of knowledge of audit strategy and personal development to the firm’s professionals. Most recent training responsibilities included educating management, and partner level audiences on IFRS adoption
