Briggs Stahl is a partner with Baker Tilly’s forensic, litigation and valuation services practice. He has spent more than 30 years finding the financial answers in complex legal issues.

Briggs provides expert witness testimony and consulting services related to family law, commercial damage claims, eminent domain, shareholder and partnership disputes, fraud, taxation and valuation.

Briggs is a member of the AAML Foundation’s Forensic and Business Valuation Division.

  • Family law expert witness: valuing assets and business interest, tracing accounts, determining marital v. non-marital portions, income and standard of living of parties, and alimony and child support revisions with over 400 times testifying as an expert witness in Court proceedings. one specific case included the issue of marital v. non-marital appreciation with a sole owner of a corporation with over 100,000 acres of farmland, 30 mobile home parks and 30 commercial high rise buildings inside the one corporation
  • Family law professional practice valuations: distinguishing the value of practice interest and the allocation of goodwill between professional (personal) and business goodwill in multiple cases
  • Commercial damage claims: determining damages due to specific events or natural disasters
  • Collaborative family law: serving as a joint expert for both parties, working with attorneys for each party and a mental health professional and settling family law cases without Court intervention
  • Shareholder disputes: valuing business interest distribution issues and fraud claims in shareholder disputes
  • Violations of non-compete: determining damages due to violation of covenants not to compete between businesses and other entities
  • Special master: serving as a court-appointed expert to determine valuation issues, production issues and other issues. One such case was a suit regarding seat allocations in a professional sports stadium filed by disgruntled season ticket holders when seats were reassigned in a new stadium

  • More than 30 years of court experience, Briggs has more than 600 testimony and deposition appearances in taxation, family law, eminent domain, shareholder disputes, fraud, commercial damages, business interruption, employment law and contract disputes. He has been certified as an expert in both state and federal court and has served as a court-appointed expert and as a special master on several occasions.
