Baker Tilly and Auburn University to Be Featured in Fraud Webinar Presented by the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) December 15, 2010 VIENNA, VA – Accounting and advisory firm Baker Tilly was selected by the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) to present a webinar with Auburn University on December 16 titled “Why Fraud Happens and How You Can Protect Your Institution." As an encore of a top-rated session at the recent NCURA Annual Meeting, the webinar will explore how higher education institutions can prevent and detect fraud. The growing scrutiny institutions are facing from regulators and the impact of an economic downturn means that fraud is occurring across industries, and universities are no exception. Now more than ever, employees need to know how to help lower their institution's fraud risk and understand the basics of why fraud occurs. In this session, attendees will: learn the red flags of fraud and how to escalate issues and concerns to the necessary parties in their institution, review real life frauds that have occurred in higher education and what they can learn from them, and gain an understanding of the basics of why employees sometimes use their position to commit fraud. Baker Tilly Senior Manager Kim Ginn has deep industry knowledge on topics such as audits, grants compliance, fraud investigations, conflicts of interest, effort reporting and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Ginn has also co-authored articles on topics including how to work successfully with internal audit as well as risk assessment in sponsored research in the NCURA Magazine and Research Global magazine.
